What does the bronze wire in the brush do?

The fine bronze wire (93% copper, 7% tin) is the traditional feature of the monastery brush – hence its name. We do not promise any effect on the skin. If you have a known metal allergy, test the brush on a small area first.

Does dry brushing really help with cellulite?

There is no miracle cure for cellulite – we make no false medical promises. Dry brushing can support the natural lymph flow, and like any massage it briefly increases local blood flow. Slight redness and warmth right afterwards are normal.

May I use this brush in the shower?

Never use wet! This brush is purely a tool for morning dry brushing. The bronze wire would tarnish (oxidize) upon contact with water and soap.

Does the brush slip off the back of the hand for small hands?

No. We deliberately do not use stiff leather or stretchy cotton straps. Our wrist strap contains elastane and adapts flexibly and securely to any hand size.

Does the metal wire scratch the skin with this hard version?

The bronze wire itself is delicate and flexible. The powerful, coarse feel of this brush comes from the Tampico fibers. This vegan blend provides an uncompromisingly harsh, highly activating exfoliation. (Not for sensitive skin!).

Where the name comes from: Tradition has it that monks and nuns dry-massaged themselves with brushes like this – this is not historically documented. The brush is said to “charge” the skin through its bronze; we have found no evidence for this, so we do not promise it.

Why bronze instead of brass: Our bronze is 93 % copper and contains no zinc. Brass usually has only 60–70 % copper; with more than about 15 % zinc it can lose zinc in a damp environment and become porous. And the more copper, the stronger the surface works against germs in the lab – a property of the metal, not a skin promise.

The bristle is a copper-tin alloy. Copper surfaces damage bacteria and fungi resting on them: a property of the metal, not a promise for your skin.

How to use it

A few minutes, on dry skin, before your shower. Light pressure is enough – you feel the bronze wire at the gentlest touch.

Legs.
Start at your feet and brush upwards in long strokes, towards your heart.
Why: the bristles loosen dead skin cells. Brushing towards your heart follows your natural lymph flow.
Arms.
Start at the back of your hands and work up in long strokes over forearms and upper arms to the shoulders.
Why: like any massage, brushing briefly increases local blood flow in the skin.
Stomach.
On your torso, switch technique: gentle circles, clockwise, over stomach and chest.
Why: your stomach needs very little pressure. Circles keep the movement gentle and even.
Afterwards.
Shower and moisturise – your skincare now absorbs better.
Why: the brush is for dry use only, so brush before you shower. After exfoliating, your skincare absorbs better.

Firm, for normal to robust skin. Not on the face, not over varicose veins, not on sensitive, broken, irritated or sunburnt skin. Not for children, not with a copper or tin allergy.
